This project is all about creating my own creatures from inanimate objects. Firstly I started to think what exactly is a creature? My own personal understanding of a creature is something with life and character. This is when I got the idea of giving human qualities to objects.
“Giving human characteristics to animals, inanimate objects or natural phenomena is a human trait called “to anthropomorphize.””
My next question was what objects should I use? Here are some photographers that use objects to turn into creatures….
I found an interesting blog called facesinplaces.blogspot.co.uk. This is where I was inspired for my first idea. It includes a variety of objects whether it be food, clothes, buildings, furniture etc.
I really took a liking to the ones created with food, I also thought it would give me a lot of freedom because there are so many different types and that is why I wanted to do it for my project. After researching different objects as creatures took a particular interest to food. Here are some examples…
These images made with fruits and vegetables with interesting compositions by a photographer from Sweden named Carl Kleiner. The backgrounds he uses are bright and colourful which make the images even more eye catching and creative. Like I will be doing with mine he has taken them in a studio and used sources of light to create a bright glow and shadows.
My main source of research came from Pinterest, there are a variety of fun different images that all give objects human features of some sort.
After being highly enlightened and amused by some of the images I found with eggs, it then sparked my own ideas. I really liked the light heartedness and fun that I can have with this idea and think that my ideas are strong enough to create some interesting images that bring life to these eggs. I also think it is quite simple yet effective how these eggs can seem to have their own personality just by adding some sort of human or animal characteristic.
